KIU, Main Campus – Julius Bukyana, a Senior News Reporter and anchor at NBS TV has told KIU journalism students that no story can be bigger than each and everyone’s own life.

This was during The Workplace Series, a career and skills development programme organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, under the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) in the Idd Basajjabalaba Memorial Library (IBML).

Bukyana, who was the lead facilitator, also gave a number of tips to the students, especially to practice it only if it is their passion.

“Journalism is a passion,” he said. “Don’t look at money when you have the passion for journalism,” he added.

Among other things, Bukyana implored students to always be smart and punctual, prioritize citizen journalism, embrace digital journalism and social media, present themselves in a good manner and above all, always take time and pray for themselves.

The programme was attended by Anita Muhairwe Malinga, the lead organizer of the programme, Maureen Komugisha, the Ag. Head of Department for Journalism and Media Studies at KIU and the Administrator from Directorate of Higher Degrees and Research Mr. Alex Kayabula among others.

The KIU Workplace Series is a work readiness programme that offers students a set of workplace skills and behaviors that are necessary for students to exhibit professionalism and achieve success in their chosen careers.

These skills and competences help the students to learn how to deal with supervisors, co-workers, clients, customers and also helps the students to transition and settle into the corporate environment with ease and confidence.
