KIU has been hosting cultural galas for years to promote diversity, inclusion, and cross-cultural understanding. These events provide a platform for cultural exchange, education, and awareness, helping to break down stereotypes and foster a sense of community.
Gracing the event as the Guest of Honour, Owek. Ssalongo Robert Serwanga, the Buganda Minister for Youth, Sports and Arts was representing the Owek. Peter Mayiga, the Prime Minister of Buganda.
“Cultural diversity is not just concepts and morality, but a reality that helps to shape the world in different ways, with strategic advantages. What we are witnessing today is a powerful reminder that we are one people, united in our diversity. Don't let language or tribal differences create barriers,” he said.
Dr. Mundu Mustafa, Deputy Vice Chancellor-Finance and Administration pointed out that KIU’s multicultural community draws its strength from diversity, and the cultural gala is a vibrant testament to this fact.
“KIU is a harbor for several cultures and during this cultural gala, we have witnessed a blend of music, dance and art. This is a true reflection of the inclusivity at KIU”, he said.
Commending students for their active participation in the event, Christine Ainebyoona, the Campus Administrator also thanked the adjudicators, Jesse Joachim Kikonyogo, Francis Mwegereko and Justine Nalumu for taking the time to provide expert feedback and guidance to students during the gala.
Owek. Nicholas Mugume, Minister of Youth Affairs, Tooro Kingdom and KIU alumnus also applauded the university's willingness to embrace different cultures and nurture many young leaders to join cultural institutions, including himself.
“During my time at KIU, I served as the Chairperson of Tooro students, a platform that sold my leadership abilities to the King of Tooro. Therefore, I urge the students to associate themselves with cultural associations not only for future agendas but also to create their identities,” he added.
Jovan Kizito, Minister of Culture, Religion and Entertainment also commented that language is the cornerstone of culture, and unity is its greatest strength.
“As we celebrate our diversity, let us remember that a shared language and culture can achieve greatness. Let us continue to live as one, embracing our heritage and traditions," he added.
As KIU continues to promote diversity and inclusion, the Annual Cultural Gala remains an integral part of the university's efforts to create a vibrant and harmonious community that celebrates the richness of all cultures.
