Collins Paul Sewanyana is a mechanical engineer by profession and an Assistant lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Kampala International University. His roles include; delivering lectures to groups of students and using advanced teaching techniques to inspire and motivate them for higher-level qualification, writing research proposals and applying for external grants, developing marking schemes, invigilating and marking examinations among others.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical) from Makerere University, Uganda, a Post Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Systems Analysis from University of Zimbabwe, a Bachelor of Engineering (Agricultural Engineering) (Honors) and a Master of Engineering (Agricultural Engineering) both of which he attained from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, additionally, he is currently developing a PhD proposal in Energy from Wastes. His areas of specialization include; Metal Cutting &Machinery, Production Technology, Engineering Ergonomics & Work Design, Fracture &Vibration Mechanics, Machine Handling Equipment and Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems to mention but a few. Besides his background in academia, he has experience working outside that field, Paul is the CEO/ Research & Training Director for BASS Engineering Solutions Limited.
Additionally, he has worked on various projects on a consultancy basis, some of these include; Development of In-situ Biogas and Organic Nutrients from Household Wastes for Energy and Nutrient Resources, and Community Sanitation (On-going), Feasibility of Establishment of Draft Animal Technology Training in District Agricultural Training and Information Centers (DATICs) under DANIDA Agricultural Support Project (Aug, 2005 –Feb, 2006) , as well as participating in consultancy work for both Governmental and Private sector in Development of Agricultural Mechanization System for Rural Transformation in Uganda (Mar.-May, 2004).
He also has several publications including; Sewanyana C.P., et. al. (2002). Design and Construction of an Improved Animal Corn Harvester. CIGR / American Society of Agricultural Engineering Congress proceedings. Chicago – USA, Sewanyana C.P.& Du Plessis H.L.M. (2001). The influence of the shank spacing of a bi-level tandem subsoiler on the force components and the specific draft (M.Sc. research project). Paul is also a member of Professional institutions, such as; the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (MASABE) and the South African Institute of Agricultural Engineers (MSAIAE) respectively.
