Elizabeth Oriekot Abongo is a Natural Resource Manager by profession as well as a lecturer in the Biological and Environmental Sciences Department at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Kampala International University where her duties include; teaching, designing and conducting field training for students, assessing and supervising student’s research work and setting and marking examinations. Apart from Academia, she also has working experience as a Senior operations and Savings officer for the Uganda Women’s Finance and Credit Trust Ltd. (UWFCT) and an external trainer on environmental issues for the Management Training and Advisory Centre (MTAC) respectively.
She holds a Masters of Science in Environment and Natural Resources, a GIS and Remote Sensing for Natural Resource Management and Physical Planning, Curriculum Review and Development of Case Studies from ITC, Netherlands, a Bachelors in Environmental Management and a Diploma in Environmental Education, Development and Practical Skills. (first class) from Makerere International Institute of Environmental Education.
Elizabeth has consulted with several organizations such as; Environment and Development Action Consult (EDA) and GIPEA Consults Ltd, in different capacities ranging from an Environmental Impact Assessor to a Land Evaluation Specialist among others. Besides that, she has worked on numerous research projects such as Kawanda Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) where she was a Research assistant National Environment Information Network, (EIN) soil database unit (SDB) and the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) where she was also a Research Assistant for Land Evaluation and Management section, under Kawanda Agricultural Research Institute respectively.
Additionally, she is also a member of various professional associations, Elizabeth has been a Vice-chair for the Forum for Adult and Community Education network (FACE Network) and the Amorata Development Association respectively, and was a member of the Association of Uganda Professional Women in Agriculture and Environment (AUPWAE) from 2001 – 2005 to mention but a few.
With the skill, expertise and experience she has garnered over the years, Elizabeth is in the right position to train, guide and shape the bright minds of the future generation here at Kampala International University where we continue to explore the heights!
