WALID A. AL BARGI is a Lecturer and Research Coordinator at the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the Kampala International University (KIU).Western Campus where he teaches in areas of Transportation Planning & Engineering, Traffic Engineering and Management, Hydraulics Engineering, Urban Storm water Management, and Statistical Analysis in Hydrology. Prior to that, he was a Graduate Research Assistant at the University Tun Hussein Onn in Malaysia where he conducted research in a particular field of knowledge, and published findings in professional journals. From 2007 to 2009, he worked as a Site Engineer with D.S Construction Limited in Libya where he supervised and monitored the progress of the Gharian Mazda Road Project from KM 0+000 to Km 67+650.
Walid obtained a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the Al-Jabal Al Gharbi University in Libya in2007, and a Master of Civil Engineering from the Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) in 2014. He also holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Civil Engineering from the Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) which he obtained in 2018. Hs areas of interest include Sustainable Transportation, Travel Behaviour Analysis, Traffic Psychology, Road Safety, Road Accident Analysis and Sustainable development.
He won a Graduate Researcher Incentive Grant from the Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), n UTHM Scholarship (BIASISWAZAH UTHM) for semester 2 session 2016/2017, a Publication Award, and a Graduate on Time Award. He has also written a number of scientific publications including the Journal of Safety Research/Elsevier, Jurnal Tenologi, and Case studies on Transport Policy/Elsevier. He has also presented a conference papers like the “Crossing Behaviour of Pedestrians Along Urban Streets in Malaysia” at the International Conference on Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering (ICSIE 2016), and “Mid-Block Crossing Behavior: A Study Of Pedestrians And Vehicles Interaction Along Urban Streets In Malaysia” at the International Conference on Urban Design & Cities Planning (UDCP 2017). Walid is a Graduate Member of the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and a Graduate Technologist with the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT).
Walid’s work ethic entails a willingness to perform basic tasks and solve complex problems, the ability to learn new knowledge and adapt to new environments quickly, possession of a strong independent work style and excellent teamwork skills, but most importantly, the ability to manage students from various backgrounds and levels of competency.
