Dr. Jacob Ashibi

Dr. Jacob Eneji Ashibi is a distinguished criminologist specializing in Cybercrime, Forensic Criminology, Victimology, and Penology. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology with a concentration in Criminology from the University of Calabar, Nigeria, obtained in 2018. His academic journey also includes a Master’s degree in Sociology (Criminology) from the same institution (2015) and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology (2006). His expertise in the digital realm is underscored by a HarvardX Certificate in Cybersecurity Economics and OPSWAT Academy certification in Critical Infrastructure Protection.
With an academic career marked by dedication, Dr. Ashibi has risen through the ranks, currently he is the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs at Kampala International University, Uganda. Prior to this position, he was the Principal, College of Humanities and Social Sciences. His academic appointments reflect his expertise in teaching and course facilitation, particularly in Criminology, Sociology, Cybercrimes, and Security Studies.
His previous administrative roles include Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) at Arthur Jarvis University and several committee leadership positions related to quality assurance, examinations, and academic planning. He has also held positions at National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), and several managerial roles in private sector organizations.
Dr. Ashibi has made significant contributions to research and academic administration. He has published extensively on topics such as recidivism, forensic technology, cybercrime, and law enforcement. His articles have appeared in reputable journals like the KIU Interdisciplinary Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Journal of Nigerian Society of Criminologists. He has also mentored numerous postgraduate students, overseeing their research on various topics related to crime, law enforcement, and societal issues across Nigeria and Somalia.
In addition to his teaching and research endeavors, Dr. Ashibi is actively engaged in university administration. He currently holds the position of Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) at KIU. His leadership roles extend to serving as Principal of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and Chairperson of several key university committees, including appointments and promotions, and grant writing.
Dr. Ashibi’s professional achievements have been recognized with several honors, including commendations for outstanding academic performance and service. Notably, he was the Best Graduating Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Criminology at the University of Calabar and has received awards of distinction in artificial intelligence and project management from the Virtual Institute for Capacity Building in Higher Education (VICBHE).
An active member of various professional bodies, Dr. Ashibi is affiliated with the Nigerian Society for Criminology (NSC), the Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Practitioners Association (NASA), and the National Association of Artificial Intelligence Practitioners (NAAIP). His professional development is further demonstrated by his participation in numerous international conferences and workshops on topics such as security, governance, and research in open and distance learning.
