Prof. Ibrahim Sani Madugu
Director, ICTEngr. Dr. Ibrahim Sani Madugu (MNSE, COREN Reg., MIEEE, NEMSA Reg., MNIEE, FICAN) is a distinguished electrical and electronics engineer, academic, and ICT leader with extensive experience in engineering education, research, digital infrastructure development, and renewable energy systems. He currently serves as the Director of the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the Main Campus of Kampala International University (KIU), Uganda, where he provides strategic leadership in digital transformation, institutional ICT infrastructure, and technology-driven academic support.
Dr. Madugu has over two decades of professional experience spanning academia, engineering consultancy, ICT systems development, and university administration. Prior to his current role, he served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST), Wudil, Nigeria, where he lectured in several undergraduate and postgraduate engineering courses, including engineering economics, electromagnetic engineering, electronics engineering, and computer systems engineering. He has supervised more than 50 undergraduate research projects and has been actively involved in collaborative research and academic mentoring.
Throughout his academic career, Dr. Madugu has held numerous leadership and governance positions within the university system. He previously served as Director of the Centre for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Director of the Centre for Renewable Energy and Climate Change at KUST Wudil. In these roles, he oversaw the development of campus ICT infrastructure, management of CBT examination centers, deployment of networks and fiber connectivity, and the coordination of research initiatives focused on renewable energy and climate change solutions.
Dr. Madugu has also played an active role in university governance and academic administration, serving on key committees such as the University Senate, University Management Committee, Appointment and Promotion Committee, and Academic Development Committee. His contributions have supported institutional policy development, curriculum innovation, academic quality assurance, and ICT master planning within the university system.
Beyond academia, he has contributed extensively to engineering consultancy and technological implementation projects across Nigeria. His professional engagements include the design and supervision of electrical installations, renewable energy systems, ICT networks, institutional web portals, and power systems infrastructure for universities, government ministries, and private organisations.
Dr. Madugu holds a PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Ilorin, a Master of Engineering (Electrical/Electronics Engineering) from Bayero University, Kano, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical/Electronics Engineering from the same institution. His research interests include power systems stability, renewable energy systems, solar radiation modelling, microgrids, and sustainable energy technologies.
A prolific researcher, he has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers in the fields of power systems engineering, renewable energy technologies, control systems, and engineering optimisation. His work has been published in reputable international journals and presented at engineering conferences worldwide.
Dr. Madugu is a registered member of several professional organisations including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA).
Through his academic, research, and leadership roles, Dr. Madugu continues to contribute to the advancement of engineering education, the development of modern ICT ecosystems in higher education, and the promotion of sustainable technological solutions.
