KIU, Main Campus - On 26th February 2020, Kampala International University came closer to ending Uganda Christian University’s unbeaten record in their second match of the 2020 Pepsi University Football League when the Kansanga-based side put a strong and charismatic display at Sendi Pitch in Wankulukuku. Before the game, according to KIU Team Captain, Muwanguzi Jackson, the home side was more than ready to prove their worth and write new history having had enough training since defeating Kumi University in their season's opening match three weeks ago, and where UCU beat Islamic University In Uganda at home in Mukono, pushing them to the top of Group B. Maftau’s fine finish put KIU ahead in the first half before Gaganga Geoffrey’s second-half equalizer saw the two academic jewels share points for the third time in a row all ending with a goal apiece. Coach Akabwayi Geoffrey’s boys started very well, possessing the ball and attacking Kintu Mwera’s Mukono-based UCU team, but that was not enough to guarantee them maximum points because UCU too was equal to the challenge thanks to her solid midfield and defence that resourcefully managed to stop the ruthless and hungry KIU side. “We played very well today only that we dint use all our chances very well,’’ said KIU Coach, Geoffrey, “UCU deserves the credit because they fought hard to remain in the game and eventually they got a point from us. But at least you could see that really our side is a very different one this time around,” he added. However, UCU Coach, Kintu, said that there is a very big difference between the KIU team they played two years ago and the one they faced yesterday at Sendi pitch. "The team we played today was very athletic, skilled, and hungrier than the KIU team we played in 2017 and 2018. There is a great improvement and I think they deserved the point,’’ said Kintu. UCU remain top of Group B, with a goal advantage over KIU both at 4 points and a point above IUIU who only won once when they beat the lowly-placed Kumi who are yet to earn a point on Tuesday.
