KIU, Main Campus – Kampala International University (KIU) has been recognized for its outstanding contribution to climate change solutions during the Global Warming International Conference, Phase 4, held on May 28, 2025. The international forum brought together institutions including NFL Yet College Prep Academy, St. Peter’s University Uganda, St. Michael Senior School, Christi Kimborou-Arizona, and Feyza Goksu Belgium, in a joint effort to tackle the urgent challenges posed by global warming.
On September 5, 2025, KIU received special commendation, with recognition certificates presented to Professor Ngoma Muhammad, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Mundu Mustafa, Assistant Deputy Vice Chancellor, and University Secretary, Ms. Asiat Mbabazi. The recognition highlighted KIU’s commitment to research, innovation, and sustainable solutions that respond to global issues.

Representing the university at the conference were Elwelu Felix and Anguzu Steward, students of Agricultural Extension and Rural Innovation under the School of Natural and Applied Sciences. Their presentation, titled “Choosing the Right Irrigation for a Hotter Future,” examined drip irrigation as a practical, sustainable approach to mitigating the effects of climate change.
Speaking after receiving the certificates of recognition, Professor Ngoma Muhammad, KIU Vice Chancellor, said:
“At KIU, we are committed to encouraging innovation and offering science-driven solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges. This recognition is not only a celebration of our students’ brilliance but also a reaffirmation of KIU’s mission to nurture problem-solvers who can create impact locally and globally.”

The student delegates described the experience as both transformative and inspiring.
Elwelu Felix noted: “Showcasing our research on drip irrigation strengthened our confidence and gave us a platform to contribute to meaningful global conversations on climate change.”
Anguzu Steward added: “We are proud to carry the KIU banner. The experience proved that with the right mentorship and research support, students can be powerful voices in shaping sustainable solutions for the future.”
The student delegation was accompanied by Mr. Shawn Kimuli, Head of Communications at KIU, who emphasized that the recognition reflects the university’s growing international visibility, strong partnerships, and leadership in research.
As KIU marks 25 years of academic excellence, and continues to rise in global and African university rankings, this achievement reinforces the university’s reputation as a hub for innovation, partnerships, and transformative research. With a clear vision for the future, KIU remains committed to preparing students who can contribute not only to Uganda’s development but also to the global fight against climate change.
