KIU International Desk: Russia Develops First COVID-19 Vaccine "“ Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that his country has successfully completed the development of the worldcâ¬â„cs first COVID-19 vaccine, Al Jazeera reports.

Putin said that his own daughter had been inoculated with the vaccine and the experiment proved that it was offering "sustainable immunity" against Coronavirus.

He made the announcement today morning, August 11.

"This morning, for the first time in the world, a vaccine against the new Coronavirus was registered in Russia,c⬝ he is quoted to have said during a televised video conference call with government ministers.

According to Putin, the countrycâ¬â„cs health ministry has given regulatory approval for the vaccine, developed by Moscow's Gamaleya Institute, after less than two months of human testing

More than 150 vaccines are currently in development all over the world, with South Africa recently announcing the first human trials for a vaccine.

In Uganda, the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) yesterday announced that they will begin vaccine trials for a COVID-19 vaccine in December, in conjunction with the Imperial College of London.
