KIU Student Bags Gold Medal for Uganda at East Africa Karate Championships

KIU, Western Campus - On October 30, 2025, the Leos Club of KIU Western Campus played host to the District Governor of 411B, Dr. Allen Tush Naturinda, a renowned Ugandan educator, transformative arts practitioner, and Lions Clubs International leader. The visit highlighted the club's commitment to community service and youth empowerment.
During her visit, Dr. Naturinda delivered an inspiring talk on mental health, emphasizing compassion, connection, calm, self-care, and coping mechanisms. She also planted an avocado tree in the KIU Pharmacy Students Association (KIUPSA) botanical garden, highlighting its benefits.
Ms. Miriam Nikwakunzire, Campus Administrator, representing the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Assoc. Prof. Eric Mabonga, expressed gratitude to the Lions Club for providing students with valuable leadership experience. "Trees symbolize life, and just like trees, clubs like Leos bring students together, fostering growth and unity. We appreciate the Lions for providing our students with valuable leadership experience through Leos. The university pledges its support to this noble initiative,” she said.
The Leos Club, supported by the Lions Club of Bushenyi, visited Bushenyi School for the Disabled, where they donated scholastic materials to candidates. This initiative exemplifies the club's dedication to serving the less fortunate.
In unison, Dr. Jacqueline Muchiri, Leo Advisor, highlighted the importance of community service in student growth, while Nuwabine Simon, Leo President, emphasized the club's passion for serving the community. “The club members are passionate about serving the less privileged while promoting good health and prevention of diseases through activities like zebra crossing painting, promoting sanitation, especially in Bassajja market, and medical camps across Western Uganda,” he stressed.
The Leos Club of KIU Western Campus continues to make a positive impact in the community, promoting good health, disease prevention, and sanitation. With over 300 members, the club is a shining example of youth empowerment and community service.
