KIU, Western Campus - The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) at Kampala International University (KIU), Western Campus, held a vibrant staff get-together on October 9th, coinciding with Uganda’s 63rd Independence Day. The event, hosted at WESREC (formerly Crane Hotel) along Kasese Road, brought together university leadership and SEAS staff in a celebration of unity, teamwork, and cultural diversity.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohamed Ngoma, graced the occasion alongside other top university officials, including Assoc. Prof. Eric Mabonga (Deputy Vice Chancellor, Western Campus), Ms. Asiat Mbabazi (University Secretary).
Also in attendance were the ADVCs, and the Directors of Finance, Quality Assurance, Academic Affairs, Campus Admin, and the CEO of KIU Teaching Hospital, among other distinguished guests. Their presence underscored the university’s commitment to staff welfare and institutional cohesion.

In his keynote address, Prof. Ngoma commended the Dean, Prof. M. M. Lawan, and the Organizing Committee for orchestrating a well-coordinated and impactful event. “This initiative strengthens workplace harmony and sets a commendable example for other schools within KIU,” he remarked, urging replication of such efforts across the university.
The day featured a spirited lineup of recreational activities—football, table tennis, ludo, and playing cards—culminating in a trophy presentation to the combined team of the Department of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, which emerged overall winners.

Adding a multicultural flair, staff members from Uganda, Nigeria, India, Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania showcased their cultural heritage through attire, music, and storytelling. This celebration of diversity reflected KIU’s global outlook and inclusive ethos.

In separate remarks, the University Secretary and the DVC praised SEAS for its leadership in both academic excellence and staff engagement. Prof. Lawan, in his vote of thanks, expressed deep appreciation to the Chairman, Board of Trustees, for the School’s ongoing infrastructural and academic transformation. “The continuous investment has positioned SEAS as one of the most advanced and fast-growing units within KIU,” he noted.
The event concluded with laughter, renewed motivation, and a shared commitment to the university’s core values—excellence, innovation, and unity.
