KIU,Western Campus – KIU’s Victor Ayomide Atoki (left in the picture) from the Department of Biochemistry has attended a conference at the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) - International Society for Neurochemistry (ISN) School on Neurodegeneration in Africa.
The School, which was held at Hunter’s Lodge in Makindu, Makueni County in Kenya, took place from November 27 to December 1.
It was attended by 25 participants from various parts of the world, all engaged in neuroscience research, with Atoki being the sole representative from Uganda.
He expressed his gratitude at being invited for the school, as he says it added a lot to his understanding of neurodegeneration.
“This experience not only broadened my academic horizons but also enriched my understanding through global perspectives in the field of neurodegeneration,” Atoki said in a WhatsApp chat.
“The conference provided a unique opportunity to interact with renowned neurologists and esteemed academic figures, including Prof. Herbert Budka (Austria), Prof. Raj Kalaria (United Kingdom), Prof. Desire Tshala-Katumbay (USA-DRC), and Dr. Viktor Korolchuk (United Kingdom), among others,” he added.
During the conference, Atoki delivered an oral presentation on his ongoing research, focusing on the “Neurological Evaluation of Hesperidin and Naringenin in Drosophila melanogaster model of Alzheimer's disease.”
The conference followed a Neuroscience Meeting held at the Postgraduate Board Room at KIU Western Campus on November 16 focused on the theme of "Career Prospects in Neuroscience."
