KIU, Main Campus — Kampala International University (KIU) law student Zubair Kanyereketo spent a week at the African Union (AU) headquarters in Addis Ababa as head of the Ugandan delegation to the Federation for African Law Students (FALAS) Annual Conference 2025.
Kanyereketo described the conference as a life-changing experience that gave him the opportunity to engage with Africa’s top young legal minds and professionals.
“I got to meet and learn from brilliant law students and professionals from across Africa, which really opened my mind to how much potential we have as a continent,” he said.
“It also gave me confidence as a young lawyer, especially leading the Ugandan delegation and engaging in such high-level discussions.”
During the weeklong event, held from October 19th to 25th, Kanyereketo presented on the topic “How to Strengthen Africa’s Economic Potential Through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).”
“It was a great honour for me to serve as the head of the Ugandan delegation at the FALAS Annual Conference 2025,” he added.
The prestigious gathering brought together law students from across the African continent to deliberate on Africa’s legal, economic and governance challenges, while proposing innovative solutions rooted in African values, particularly Ubuntu and the rule of law.
Kanyereketo’s participation at the AU headquarters adds to his growing record of leadership and academic excellence, reflecting KIU’s commitment to nurturing globally competitive, socially responsible and intellectually empowered graduates.
“Overall, it was more than just a conference,” Kanyereketo said. “It was a reminder that we, as young legal minds, have a big role to play in shaping Africa’s future.”
