KIU, Western Campus - Kampala International University, Western Campus (KIU-WC) officially welcomed its January 2026 intake students with a comprehensive induction program organized by the Office of the Dean of Students Affairs. The two-day event, held from February 12 to 13, 2026, aimed to equip students with essential information and skills to navigate university life.
The program kicked off with a session on university policies and procedures, led by Hadijah Nantale, Dean of Students Affairs. She urged students to familiarize themselves with university guidelines and adhere to rules to avoid punishments. "We want you to leave with titles added unto your names, and this can only be attained when you focus. Don't misuse the freedom you have now," she said, emphasizing the importance of balancing academics and co-curricular activities like sports.
Rev. Fr. Bruno Kaharuza T, University Counsellor, emphasized the importance of prioritizing well-being and seeking support when needed. "Your well-being is our joy and pleasure, and we would like to see to it that you achieve whatever you have come here for," he said, encouraging students to readjust and appreciate their current academic programs. He also assured them that his office is available 24/7 for guidance and support.

Representing the student's body, H.E Cliffton George Lamtoo, Guild President of KIU-WC, cautioned against unnecessary competition and comparisons, instead urging students to build support networks and discussion groups. He also emphasized the value of social networking and forging lasting friendships.
Speaking further, Mugisha Allan, Admissions Officer, tackled admissions queries, stressing the need for students to secure their admission letters and correct any errors. He briefed students on registration requirements, including getting a registration number and setting up student emails.
Shallon Asiimwe, Bursary Officer, took the floor to walk students through the bursary application process, stressing that KIU bursaries are completely free. She warned students to guard their award letters carefully, noting that replacements come with a steep 20% charge of the total tuition.
The program also featured presentations on quality assurance guidelines, highlighting regular class attendance, time management, and steering clear of examination malpractice. The Directorate of Academic Affairs drove the point home, warning that examination malpractice can lead to serious consequences like imprisonment and dismissal, also outlining the strict re-marking process for those who try to cheat the system.
Building on this momentum, Haulah Malkia, Deputy Dean of Students Affairs, urged students to have a mission, vision, and focus as they navigate university life. "This orientation is a wake-up call, urging you to embrace freedom with responsibility," she said.

Janerous Twinomujuni, Deputy Director of Finance, outlined key financial guidelines, noting that students can be registered using their bursary award lists, even if they haven't received their award letters yet.
"Students not under any scholarship are required to make a 50% initial deposit before registration," she said. Additionally, applying for a dead semester after 45 days from the semester's commencement attracts a 25% surcharge on the total tuition, while those on bursary should fill a scholarship reinstatement form.
In unison, the University Main Library team led an orientation on navigating the university's resources, covering Reference and Circulation dos and don’ts, Reserve section services, and accessing e-resources via the university's online catalogue and MyLOFT (My Library On Finger Tips) app.
Led by the Guild Union, students toured the university's state-of-the-art facilities including Pharmacy, Science and Biomedical Blocks, Engineering laboratories and workshops, among others, gaining familiarity with their new environment. Later, they attended the faculty/school/college orientation, providing specific guidelines for each academic unit.
The induction program aimed to prepare students for a successful university experience, emphasizing responsibility and focus.
