KIU Student Bags Gold Medal for Uganda at East Africa Karate Championships

KIU, MAIN CAMPUS - Kampala International University (KIU) was on Friday, 10th October, 2025, honored to host a high-level delegation from SIMI Technologies, marking a significant step toward advancing Uganda’s digital transformation through academia-industry collaboration.
The delegation, led by Armstrong Shi, Vice President of SIMI Technologies, and Dawud Wu, Technical Expert, engaged with KIU leadership to explore potential areas of partnership in ICT training, innovation, and student development.
Shi introduced SIMI Technologies as a Chinese company committed to the “Buy Uganda, Build Uganda” vision. The company locally assembles phones, smartphones, tablets, laptops, and accessories, reducing reliance on costly imports while fostering technology transfer and job creation.
“KIU aims to leverage this partnership to enhance ICT training, foster innovation, and create hands-on learning opportunities for students,” said Dr. Mustafa Mundu, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance & Administration).
Christine Ainebyoona, Deputy University Secretary / Campus, emphasized the importance of bridging academia and industry: “Collaborations like these are key to empowering graduates with practical skills for Uganda’s digital economy.”
The SIMI Technologies team also met with key university officials including Prof. Regina Ejemot-Nwadiaro (Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research, Innovation, Consultancy & Extension), Dr. Irene Murithi Wanjiru (Director, Quality Assurance & Monitoring), Prof. Ibrahim Sani Madugu (Director, ICT), and Dr. Adewusi Michael Adelani (Dean, School of Mathematics and Computing). Discussions focused on joint research initiatives, student internships, curriculum enhancement, and faculty development programs.
This strategic visit signals a promising future for KIU students and reaffirms the university’s commitment to equipping graduates with the skills and exposure needed to thrive in Uganda’s growing tech ecosystem.
