About KIU

Jinja (Regional Referral Hospital)

The Kampala International University (KIU) Clinical Training Site at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital plays a pivotal role in the practical training of medical and health sciences students from KIU's Western and Main campuses. Situated in the heart of Jinja City, the hospital is a government-owned tertiary healthcare facility that serves as both a regional referral center and a vital teaching hospital for future healthcare professionals.

Strategic Location for Clinical Exposure

Located in Eastern Uganda, Jinja Regional Referral Hospital (JRRH) provides a rich and diverse clinical environment, exposing students to a broad spectrum of diseases and healthcare challenges. Its strategic position as a referral center for multiple districts enhances students' clinical experiences through real-time interactions with patients from varied backgrounds.

Academic and Clinical Integration

KIU has established a structured partnership with the Ministry of Health and JRRH to support supervised clinical rotations in disciplines such as:

  • Internal Medicine

  • Surgery

  • Pediatrics and Child Health

  • Obstetrics and Gynecology

  • Emergency and Critical Care

  • Community Health

Students are mentored by seasoned consultants, medical officers, and faculty members, ensuring a seamless blend of theory and practice. Regular ward rounds, case discussions, and practical assessments are part of the learning process.

Facilities and Support

The hospital provides access to essential facilities including:

  • Operating theaters

  • Diagnostic labs and imaging

  • Maternity and neonatal units

  • HIV/AIDS care centers

  • Emergency and outpatient departments

KIU complements this with faculty presence, student accommodation arrangements (where applicable), and academic oversight to ensure quality assurance in clinical teaching.

Contribution to Healthcare and Learning

The presence of KIU students and faculty at JRRH has not only enriched medical education but also contributed to improved service delivery at the hospital. Through outreach programs, community health projects, and collaborative research, KIU and JRRH are fostering a culture of academic excellence and public service.
