KIU Main Campus - Ibrahim Ruhweza, a member of KIU's Mass Communication class of 2018 and currently a journalist at New Vision, is among the nominees for the 2024 National Journalism Awards.
The National Journalism Awards are organized annually by the African Center for Media Excellence to celebrate and recognize journalism excellence in Uganda.
The 2024 National Journalism Awards gala is scheduled for Wednesday, July 30th at Mestil Hotel in Nsambya, Kampala.
Ruhweza, who has been writing for the New Vision newspaper for three years, has been an exceptional reporter since joining the Industrial Area-based media group.
"I feel so good that in just two years at Vision Group, my work is visible to this extent. I have really worked hard, taking advantage of my helpful friends, editors, and mentors," Ruhweza said.
"This nomination alone is enough to show how impactful my stories are, and I feel my efforts are beginning to get recognized," he added.
KIU is known to inculcate a spirit of excellence and competition in learners, which many graduates take on to reach greater heights in life. Ibrahim Ruhweza is one example, but what does this milestone mean to this young man?
"It gives me strength and confidence to pursue more potential stories. Being nominated is already an award to me because there are so many journalists who applied but were not considered. This also means my stories are exceptional," he said.
Ruhweza's scope of investigative stories ranges from healthcare, education, morality, and sanitation to security and governance.
He is one of the few people who are living their dreams. He said his dream was always to report for a national newspaper, and now he is reaping the dividends.
