The KIU Titans juggernaut continued on its never-in-doubt journey to this season’s National Basketball League (NBL) playoffs with two wins against Falcons and the KCCA Panthers over the weekend, while the university female team, Rangers lost against fellow university side UCU Lady Canons.
Titans kicked off the weekend with a 65 – 62 win against Falcons on Saturday, which only came after a last-gasp 3 points from stalwart Faisal Aden (in photo). Falcons had fought tooth and nail to secure a precious victory against Titans but could not deny the brilliance of Aden, who has turned out to be the team’s star performer so far.
And on Sunday, a win against minnows KCCA Panthers was never in doubt and Titans strolled to a 93 – 71 victory, winning by double digits for the second time in two weeks after the earlier thrashing of UPDF Tomahawks.
Meanwhile, it was not a sunny day for KIU Rangers, who had to endure a tough journey to Mukono to face UCU Lady Canons, which ended in a 47 – 63 loss. Though it doesn’t affect their playoff chances, the loss poses questions about their status as serious title contenders.
