KIU Western Campus Medical Students Vote for Leaders

KIU, Western Campus – KIU Western Campus medical students under their umbrella group, Association of Medical Students of Kampala International University (AMSKIU) on 29th November voted for their leaders.

The students voted for their president, Vice-President, General Secretary, Public Relations Officer, Chief Editor and respective class representatives.

The most intriguing contest was between Allan Kambale (in the photo) and Marvin Katumba for the post of President but Kambale carried the day, winning with 447 votes to 411.

Genevieve Namaganda Akello overwhelmingly beat Bridget Nassali 527-307 to become the new Vice-President while the three-horse race for the post of General Secretary amongst Vincent Kimoni, Vanessa Asiimwe and Faisal Muwanga ended with Muwanga winning with 305 votes and Kimoni finishing second with 255 votes while Asiimwe trailed with 253 votes.

Oscar Melvin Gumisiriza (above) trounced Kugonza Kyomuhendo 525-282 to become the new Public Relations Officer and Emmanuel Gabriel Ochiro was unopposed on the post of Chief Editor.

Samuel Talemwa was elected the new Treasurer after winning the vote against Isaiah Mwaise 465-287.

Brian Tumwakire, Isaac Twesigomwe Bitarabeho, Ben Jerry Ogwang, Ajara Amutuhaire and John Kyalisikisa were elected Class Representatives for their respective classes.

The Electoral Commission chairman Allan Mujabi said the voting went on smoothly and it was a free, fair and transparent exercise.

“I commend all the medical students for their cooperation during this exercise and I can confidently say that it was a free, fair and transparent election,” Mujabi said.
