Global Recognition: KIU Student Bags International Phytomedicine Training Travel Grant

KIU Main Campus: Kampala International University (KIU) continues to cement its reputation as a hub for exceptional talent, with fifth-year Bachelor of Pharmacy student Tony Omara making waves internationally. Omara was competitively selected from a global pool of applicants to participate in the esteemed Fifth International Undergraduate Pharmacy Training program hosted by the University of Indonesia.

This prestigious program focused on the critical role of phytomedicine in addressing prevalent health conditions such as hypertension and diabetes. Omara's selection and participation in this esteemed initiative is an indicator of KIU's commitment to nurturing world-class professionals.

The six-week intensive online training, which brought together 50 participants from countries including Nigeria, Nepal, and China, featured hands-on activities and interactive discussions led by experts in pharmacology and pharmacognosy.

Culminating in a rigorous assessment, Omara's exceptional performance earned him one of two travel grants awarded to top participants, alongside a fellow student from Vietnam. As a result, Omara will embark on a fully sponsored tour to Indonesia from 21st-28th October, where he will visit botanical gardens, collaborate with Indonesian pharmacy students, and explore the country's phytomedicine industry.

The tour grant targets to enhance Omara's knowledge of African and Indonesian traditional medicine, foster collaboration with researchers in Indonesia, and gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge research facilities.

Reflecting on this achievement, Omara expressed gratitude to KIU’s management and staff, acknowledging their support.

"This success belongs to everyone who contributed to my academic journey. I owe it to KIU's Chairman Board of Trustees, Vice Chancellors, Director of Grants, and the School of Pharmacy lecturers who have equipped us with invaluable skills," Omara said.

He encouraged his fellow students to seek out such international opportunities, emphasizing how they contribute to a broader understanding of pharmacy and healthcare. "This achievement proves that KIU delivers top-tier education, and I am honored to represent our university globally," he added.

KIU congratulates Omara Tony on achieving this significant milestone.
