KIU Main Campus — Kanyeihamba and Co-Advocates emerged victorious in the 2025 KIU Inter-Firm Moot Court Competition on Tuesday, February 11th, 2025. The annual competition, which features student-run law firms, aims to equip students with practical legal skills and etiquette.
Kanyeihamba's triumph on Tuesday marked their third consecutive win, maintaining an undefeated streak since 2022. This success is largely attributed to the leadership of Zubair Kanyereketo, the firm's managing partner, who has continued the legacy of his predecessors.
The moot competition was organized by the Office of the Dean, School of Law, as part of a series of events scheduled for the university’s Law Week.
Kanyeihamba and Co-Advocates triumphed over Kamasanyu Advocates in a fiercely contested final, with Maraga and Co-Advocates and Fatou Bensouda and Company Advocates watching from the sidelines.
“The win came with a lot of hard work, intensive training, and unwavering commitment from our coach, Kaddu Reagan, President Emeritus of the KIU Law Society,” said Zubair Kanyereketo, Kanyeihamba’s managing partner.
“As the managing partner, I feel proud that our team won all the awards in the competition, including the Best Oralist award, which I won,” he added. “This success was made possible by my dedication and commitment to everything I put my mind to.”
Sylvia Nantongo, one of the winning team members, shared her excitement about the achievement. “I am super excited. I love being a champion—it feels great!”
“This achievement proves that I am familiar with civil procedure, even though I haven’t formally studied it. It has exposed me to the legal community, but more importantly, the whole process was a valuable learning experience, particularly in drafting legal documents,” Nantongo added.
Bridget Atugonza, another member of Kanyeihamba’s 2025 winning team, expressed how the experience has motivated her to enhance her advocacy skills.
“As a law student, this achievement has inspired me to further develop my advocacy skills. I’m eager to improve my public speaking and presentation abilities,” she said.
