KIU, Main Campus - A total of 31 students picked up nomination forms to run for membership of the Guild Union parliament representing various Colleges and Schools between Monday 14th to Thursday 17th March 2022, Solomon Oketcho, the  chairman KIU Guild Union Electoral Commission has announced.

There are 27 seats in the KIU Guild Union parliament with each College and School apart from Access and Post-graduate required to present four representatives, one of them being female  as stipulated by the Students Union Constitution.

The number of aspirants who picked the nomination forms was a record low, something which Solomon Oketcho, the Guild EC chairperson attributes to the prevailing uncertainties in the world that have not only disturbed the would-be candidates financially but also psychologically.

"The turn up has been majorly affected by issues that have been at the center of affairs everywhere. These uncertainties have affected some legible candidates," Oketcho explained.

Nomination of the 31 aspirants is underway at the Guild Union offices and will go on until 5pm Monday 21st March 2022 when successful candidates shall be declared and allowed to start campaigns, according to the Electoral Commission road map.

Members of Parliament will be voted on 4th April 2022, three days after the stakeholders meeting. Successful college representatives will have the chance to stand for president or back one candidate who shall be nominated on 5th April 2022 according to the roadmap.

Successfully nominated Presidential aspirants will have six days to solicit for votes - from 5th to 10th April ,2022.
The election of the Guild President on 11th April 2022 is the last event on the road map if everything goes according to plan.
