A Run Away win for KIU Rangers, Shock for the Titans

By Isaac Akugizibwe

KIU, Main Campus-KIU Rangers thrashed Kampala University Lady Eagles 105-26 on Saturday afternoon while KIU Titans were shocked by UCU Canons in a 68-69 defeat on Friday evening.

Despite starting poorly, KIU Rangers came from scoring just six points in the first quarter to score 79 points in the other quarters while the Eagles were completely outmatched at both ends.

The Rangers were greatly inspired by Ines Kanyamuneza who scored the game's highest 26 points and ever-green Diana Letaru who registered 20 points to become the club's lead scorer overtaking Sharon Kirabo who had a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Perus Nyamwenge (16) and Brenda Ayere (13) were the other Rangers who scored in double figures.

The Rangers win was a consolation to the KIU basketball fraternity following Friday's heart wrecking collapse of the KIU Titans against the UCU Canons, losing it all by a point in the last 30 seconds of the game.

The Titans who looked the better side throughout the game lost control in the fourth quarter scoring only eight points to UCU'S 20. A last-minute three-pointer by the unlikely hero Joseph Sifuma ended an eight-game winning run by the Titans who also registered the second defeat of the season.

KIU Titans went into Friday's game without star player and their main big man, Amiisi Saidi Danny Carmelo and three others including; Collins Kasujja, Brian Opio, and Ahmed Kassa. This left the team with only three substitutes with Edgar Munaba joining midway in the first quarter. It was later confirmed that the players who didn't show up were all nursing injuries.

KIU Titans Coach Julius Lutwama has since promised that the boys in green will recover quickly and get back to their best in the remaining two games to end the first round of the season.
