COVID-19 Updates: Coronavirus Cases in Uganda Climb to 83

KIU, Main Campus - According to the Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, two new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed out of the 2,071 samples that were tested at Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe. 

This brings the total confirmed cases to 83 in Uganda as the discharged ones remain at 52. There's no single death from COVID-19 that has been reported yet.

The two cases were identified as Kenyan male truck drivers 55 years and 27 year old who arrived via Busia and Malaba respectively, the Ministry of Health said.

"2 new COVID-19 cases confirmed today out of the 2,071 samples tested today. The confirmed cases are both Kenyan male truck drivers: 55 y/o and 27 y/o who arrived via Busia and Malaba respectively.COVID-19 Confirmed cases in Uganda: 83," the Ministry of Health announced on Twitter.

Out of the 2,071 samples tested, all 492 samples from the community tested negative for COVID-19.

More to that, the ministry has also revealed that a total of 2,248 contacts to the COVID-19 confirmed cases have been listed to date. 

"Of these, 1,440 completed the mandatory 14 day follow up while 808 contacts are being followed by our surveillance officers," Ministry of Health added to say.

So far with a total of 52 discharges, the country hopes to curb the spread of the pandemic and also register more recoveries and zero deaths.
