KIU, Main Campus - Uganda’s COVID-19 cases have surpassed the 700 mark as 19 tested positive yesterday, June 15.  The Ministry of Health has revealed that these cases are from the 2,212 samples that were tested yesterday.

6 of the new cases were among the1,451 samples that were tested from the border entry points while the 13 other new cases were among the 761 samples of the contacts and alerts of the previously confirmed cases. All the confirmed cases are Ugandans which makes a total of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country 724.

Dr Henry Mwebesa, the Director-General of Health Services in the ministry of health says 6 of the confirmed cases are truck drivers who arrived from South Sudan via Elegu point of entry and Kenya via Malaba point of entry.

He adds that 13 of the confirmed cases are alerts and contacts of the previously confirmed cases from Jinja, Kyotera, Amuru, Tororo, Gulu and Wakiso districts.

Dr Mwebesa added that 25 foreign truck drivers tested positive and were handed over to their respective countries of origin. These were from South Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and DR Congo.

Uganda has registered a total of 351 recoveries of COVID-19 with no registered COVID-19 related death.
