Fighting Coronavirus Together: National Lockdown Extended to 21 Days

KIU, Main Campus – Earlier today, HE President Yoweri Museveni announced that Uganda’s lockdown will be extended by 21 extra days, starting tomorrow on Wednesday, 15th April, 2020.

The President also announced that all previously announced measures will remain in place for the next 21 days in a bid to curb the spread of Coronavirus.

The three weeks period, is to be used to make more studies on the virus and analyze possible measures to overcome the virus.

"By 5th May, a systematic plan will have been made and restrictions will be lifted one by one, during these 21 days," the President said.

This was after the President acknowledged that Uganda was not prepared for a crisis that has claimed lives of many people in the world.

Despite the nationwide power blackouts in some areas, the awaited Presidential address was finally held and broadcasted on televisions, radios and social media platforms.

According to Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL), the national power distribution company, there is a floating island that is affecting power generation at Bujagali power dam and Owen falls dam.
