Fighting Coronavirus Together: President Museveni Applauds Task Force Donors

KIU, Main Campus – President Yoweri Museveni has applauded organizations, companies and other entities that have donated vehicles and other forms of assistance to the National Taskforce Response Fund to support governments efforts in fighting Coronavirus.

He said this while flagging off are fleet of 45 vehicles at Kololo Airstrip that have been donated to fight Coronavirus pandemic.

“I thank Ugandans who have adhered to the preventive measures from the Ministry of Health and for spontaneously donating cars and any other form of financial assistance. I want to build up a crisis response fleet for the Ministry of Health of 1350 cars so that each district gets about 10 cars that will be used in times of crisis like this and after they are kept,” Museveni said.

The president added that he will not allow these vehicles to be misused by officials who will be moving around.

The State Minister for Health in charge of General Duties, Robinah Nabbanja said that the first fleet of vehicles flagged off will be given to districts at the country's borders since they are experiencing a significant threat. The state minister was referring to the recent spike in Coronavirus confirmations, primarily consisting of foreign nationals driving trucks into the country. 

President Museveni said that he will be addressing the nation on 28th, April 2020, on how far the country has reached in preventing coronavirus.

The ministry of health registered 11 new cases on Thursday, April 2020. Six of them were truck drivers from Tanzania and five are Kenyan truck drivers bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 74.
