KIU, Main Campus - More than 120,000 people mainly from Karusandara sub-county and Bulembia-Kilembe Division in Kasese district were displaced and their crop gardens washed away when River Nyamwamba burst its banks on Thursday morning.

Massive destruction was also caused by overflows from other rivers in the district including Nyamughasana, Mubuku, and Lhubiriha, after heavy rains that have been experienced in the district for the last month.

The floods also washed away part of Kilembe Mines Hospital, after huge volumes of water swept through the wards, destroying medical equipment and drugs.

Till now, Karusandara sub-county remains submerged, leaving many residents with nowhere to go. Many of these have sought refuge in the displacement camps that have been set up by the government to house displaced residents.
