KIU, Main Campus-Godfrey Agaba, the Guild Union President of KIU, has acknowledged that attaining the chance to lead fellow students at Uganda's leading private university is a feat achieved through substantial effort. As a final-year law student, he is determined to make the most out of this opportunity by applying his abilities effectively.
Agaba was voted guild president in April 2023 to replace Moses Ebye whose one term of office concluded in May this year.
"Becoming the guild president of KIU is truly a remarkable experience, as it's an opportunity that many students aspire for but few attain," Agaba expressed.
He has promised to support the transformation of the student community through a number of activities and initiatives.
"In my term of Office, I intend to conduct various activities including the Trade Bazaar, Cultural Galla, Inter faculty football competitions among others for the Benefit of Students."
Now in his second active month as Guild President, Agaba is set to be judged by what he will accomplish this semester which is already underway. He plans to leave office without any scandal.
"As I finish my course in May 2024, I wish to leave a calm Environment at KIU as we have been known as a non-violent institution."
"I wish to serve again at KIU in other capacities as a professional, moving forward."
WHO IS AGABA
Born in the late 1990's Godfrey Agaba is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey Turyatemba of Kanyancende Cell, Rutugunda Parish, Kirima Sub County in Kanungu District. He could easily be said to have been born a leader for he has held a leadership position at every stage at least in education.
He began as a timekeeper in Kitariro Primary School before advancing to a scouts leader at Bright Future Primary School Kanungu from where he finished primary school education.
When he joined Bright Future High School Kihiihi for O'level, Agaba was voted as a timekeeper again before being promoted to General Duties prefect in S.2 and a School Speaker in S.3.
He would leave Bright Future High School for Kyamate Secondary School in Ntungamo District for the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education.
Here, he became head of the Patriotism Club and had various responsibilities in the school chapel before joining Law Development Centre (LDC) for a Diploma in Law.
He graduated from the LDC with a First class in 2018 and was able to secure employment at Bwagi and Co. Advocates in Rukungiri. He has since left for Atuheire Phiona and company advocates still in Rukungiri and it is here that he still strives to earn a living.
He joined KIU in August 2020 and has since transformed into one of the most sought-after young leaders in Uganda. He has served as a leader in the KIU Guild Union member of Parliament representing the school of law (2022/2023), Kigezi Students Association among others.
Because of his association with past Guild leaders as well as being in Parliament for a year, Agaba had all it takes to become the 19th Guild president of the KIU Guild Union.
