KIU, Main Campus – Carlos Ogik is a charismatic, fearless and humble young leader with a strong conviction to serve humanity, who has served KIU as a student’s guild leader, rising through the ranks to become a junior lecturer.

After graduating with a law degree from Uganda Christian University, Ogik decided to join KIU in 2017 to pursue a degree in International Relations and Diplomacy.

He was shortly thereafter chosen as the clerk to the Guild Union parliament and his leadership skills came to the fore when he alongside a team of students, founded the International Relations Students Association of KIU in 2018. 

They were inspired by students, scholars and dignitaries with whom they met in different diplomatic conferences and engagements.

"These comrades would identify themselves under associations like ‘Young diplomats, diplomats on course’ among others through which they achieved great trips and international diplomacy conferences. We had to learn from them and start our own association," Ogik explains.

Through the International Relations Students Association, Ogik and his colleagues were able to access fora and platforms which had erstwhile proved difficult for individuals. 

They helped students find internship placements in different organizations and agencies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The association also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Uganda Council on Foreign Relations to organize timely lectures for International Relations Students.

He also represented KIU at the foreign policy debate held at the United Nations headquarters in Entebbe from which he emerged as one of the best foreign policy analysts. This remains his outstanding moment at KIU since he successfully represented his beloved university.

Ogik excelled at his studies as well, becoming the best student from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences during KIU's 21st graduation ceremony on November 16th, 2021, scoring a CGPA of 4.52. 

He currently serves the country as a human rights defender,  a political analyst and youth leader at the national level.

Ogik is also the founder of the Northern Youths Advocacy Alliance, a community-based organization aimed at empowering the youth in Northern Uganda, and sits in the East African Youth Employment Forum as a Ugandan Delegate. 

He loves reading, poetry, catching up with international issues and debate. 

Ogik is pursuing a master’s degree of Arts in Conflict Resolution and Peace Building under the university scholarship scheme. He also doubles as a junior lecturer in International Relations and Diplomacy.
