KIU, Western Campus – A team from Islamic University In Uganda (IUIU) headed by the University Engineer Dauda Semujju on Thursday February 23 paid a courtesy visit to KIU’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), with the aim of learning from them as they prepare to introduce Engineering Sciences at their own University.

Semujju was flanked by Nordeen Kiwanuka, who doubles as the Vice-Chairperson for Lwengo district and Ayub Sebyala.

The KIU Western Campus team included Dr. Yinka Sanusi, the Associate Dean for SEAS, Earnest Edozie, the Head of Department, Electrical and Telecommunication Engineering, Dr Melvin Selvam, a senior lecturer in SEAS and Ibrahim Adabara, an Information Technology lecturer at KIU Western Campus, who represented the Assistant Deputy Vice-Chancellor (ADVC) Finance and Administration, Dr. Mustapha Mundu.

The team started by visiting the various laboratories, including the Mechanical lab and workshop, the Carpentry and Joinery workshop, the Renewable Energy lab and the Telecommunication lab, where they were impressed by the anti-theft machine, which has camera and alarm systems.

They then proceeded to the Environmental and Water Engineering lab, Electronics lab, Electrical and Machine lab, Construction Materials lab, the Physics lab, Computer labs and wound up their tour by visiting the SEAS library.

Semujju said they visited SEAS because they wanted to know how things are done, take a look at the equipment and how it is managed plus the overall planning for the equipment and its maintenance, because IUIU is in the process of starting engineering training. And he was not disappointed.

“I am quite impressed,” he said. “KIU has taken a big stride, what I have seen here is not in any Engineering training facility, not even in Makerere University, where I did my Engineering degree,” he raved.

“We need more training facilities of this caliber in Uganda. I thank the Vice-Chancellor (Dr. Mouhammad Mpezamihigo) for the opportunity he has given me to visit SEAS because what I have seen is beyond my comprehension,” Semujju noted.

Kiwanuka for his part said he will spread the gospel about SEAS to everyone connected to Engineering in Uganda.

“We are now unrecruited ambassadors for this institution and I can assure you, by the time others wake up, you will be far ahead,” said Kiwanuka.
