Joshua Cheptegei Sets new 10km World Record at Cannes

KIU, Main Campus –  Joshua Cheptegei, the double Olympic champion, on Sunday, March 6th 2022, won the Cannes 10km road race with a new World-leading and French all-comers record. 

Cheptegei, who last summer won an Olympic 5,000m gold and a 10,000m in Tokyo, took the victory at Cannes 10Km in 26 minutes and 49 seconds.

“I'm happy to see where I stand. It's great to start my season with a World Lead. This gives me confidence for my track season,” said Cheptegei after winning the race. 

“Happy to start my season with a 10k world leading time of 26:49 (6th fastest of all time) it gives me joy and hope leading to @WCHoregon22  I thank God almighty for the grace to run strong again after a long time. I am optimistic that this year God will do something great ” he tweeted.
