KIU, Western Campus – On behalf of the KIU community, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Patrick Kyamanywa, has sent his warmest Easter weekend wishes to the Orthodox Christian community in KIU, and the world at large.

In his Easter message to the Orthodoxies, Prof Kyamanywa said, “I take this opportunity to wish the KIU Orthodox community and Orthodox Christians all over the world a happy Easter weekend.”

The Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jonans Tusiimire equally wished them a happy Easter, while reminding them not to forget about their studies.

The Dean of Students, Maureen Asiimwe also sent her Easter regards and encouraged the students to stick to the measures they were given by the relevant authorities, as they have done thus far so that they can stay healthy.

“I am particularly happy that we have not got news of any of our students being infected with COVID-19 so far. This shows that you have followed all the guidelines issued by the government. Please continue doing so because we need you to stay healthy,” Asiimwe said.

Collins Kakwezi, the deputy Public Relations Officer for the Western campus reiterated Asiimwe’s plea, informing students that the only way to stay aware was getting information from trusted sources.

“Factual Information is a big weapon in this fight, which is the reason why the President did not shut down media services. So please get the right information from verifiable sources like the Ministry of Health, WHO and KIU websites,” he said.

The Orthodox Christians, led by the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew celebrate their Easter one week after other Christians because they follow the Julian calendar, while the rest use the Gregorian calendar.
