KIU, Main Campus-KIU football team coach, Geoffrey Akabwai is confident that the boys will make it out of a tough group D despite being held 1-1 by UCU at home on Wednesday.
KIU put up an excellent performance in Wednesday's game despite playing as underdogs following UCU's firing form before the match. Akabwai was impressed that the boys kept up with the script though they could not achieve a win.
"The performance was good, we played according to the plan we had discussed though we aimed at three points which didn't come our way," Akabwai said post-match.
He attributed the team's failure to secure the three points to the examination period that limited the players enough time for practice.
"The main reason why we didn't get the three points was basically lack of enough practice because the players had exams in the last two weeks yet they had to play two games within that period," he said.
"But we carry the positives from this game to the remaining two games. And we are looking at nothing but getting the maximum 6 points that will enable us to qualify for the knockout round," he added.
KIU will next host Busitema University on 12th November 2023 before closing the preliminary round with a visit to Kumi University.
