KIU, Western Campus - South Africa's Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Gwede Mantashe and his wife have tested positive for COVID-19, the BBC reports.
According to the same report, Mantashe and his wife are currently in isolation but the minister will continue working from home.
Mantashe is the latest in a long list of public officials on the continent who have contracted the deadly Coronavirus.
At the beginning of the week, two unnamed lawmakers from Madagascar died after contracting Coronavirus, and 25 other lawmakers in the country have been diagnosed with the disease.
In neighbouring Tanzania, Augustine Mahiga, Tanzania's minister for constitution and legal affairs, Gertrude Rwakatare and Richard Ndassa, all Members of Parliament died from COVID-19 in April.
