KIU, Main Campus: After a tremendous performance in all sporting disciplines, KIU will leave the 2023 University Games hosted by Uganda Christian University in Mukono with great pleasure.
With their heads held high, the green-clad team will bring home 13 gold medals, seven silver medals, and two bronze.
On the final day of the competition, Team KIU clinch their 13th gold medal by triumphing over Ndejje University in the Darts final.
This victory added to their earlier successes, including two gold medals in Ladies Table Tennis, and a dominating performance in Karate, where they claimed ten gold medals, emerging as overall winners in a fierce contest against Ndejje University.
The ladies Darts team contributed another gold, while the Karate team secured all seven silver medals.
The Lone tennis team secured a commendable third-place finish, earning a bronze medal, while the Volleyball, athletics, and high jump teams finished fourth in their respective categories.
Despite competing in only seven events, KIU's remarkable achievement, with gold medals in four sporting disciplines is a testament to the team's dedication and perseverance amid challenges in player mobilization and team selection due to a busy academic schedule.
Against all odds, KIU exceeded expectations, making the university proud through determination and a commitment to excellence.
The team will return to Kansanga on Thursday evening, completing their successful campaign in Mukono.
