KIU, Main Campus - Martin Ainebyona, the Chairman of the 2020 Guild Electoral Commission has urged Members of Parliament aspirants for different schools and colleges to respect and observe rules set by the commission as well as the standard operating procedures(SOPs) set by the Ministry of Health against COVID-19 ahead of the Monday 7th December elections.

Martin told KIU news that once declared eligible to contest, the candidates will not be allowed to hold mass processions within the university premises.

''Those that fail to abide by the rules and regulations governing this electoral process shall be punished accordingly including withdrawing their candidature."

Only 15 aspirants had been nominated out of the 36 that picked nomination forms by Wednesday, though Martin still hopes the number will increase by deadline day on Thursday 3rd December 2020.

''We believe the turn up will be high since there is one whole day for many other aspirants to come for forms,'' he affirmed.

He also said that the open air campaigns will be held at the university's football pitch under strict observation of SOPs including two metre distance between individuals, and mandatory wearing of face masks among others.
