KIU Partners with Bio Cosmos Uganda to Pioneer Intelligent Design Studies

KIU, Main Campus - On Friday, July 31, 2026, Kampala International University (KIU) entered into a groundbreaking partnership with Bio Cosmos Foundation Uganda, signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to advance research and curriculum development in intelligent design studies.

The agreement marks a significant step in integrating the scientific theory of intelligent design into academia, with a focus on research, innovation, and the creation of training programs that encourage critical inquiry and creativity.

Welcoming the delegation, KIU Vice Chancellor Prof. Muhammed Ngoma expressed optimism about the collaboration, noting its potential to enrich the university’s academic landscape.

Joel Isanga, board member of Bio Cosmos Uganda, shared the foundation’s vision:

“Bio Cosmos appreciates the minds behind the beautiful designs created. We are interested in academia because this is where ideas can be exchanged, challenged, and validated through scientific methods.”

Isanga outlined activities to be undertaken, including research projects across sectors, curriculum design, and the establishment of student clubs funded through creative initiatives. He emphasized the organization’s ambition to expand through collaborations with universities in different regions.

Dr. Mundu Mustafa, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Finance and Administration (F&A), who initiated the signing ceremony, emphasized that the partnership would boost KIU’s image as a multicultural institution offering diverse programs.

“Students who would travel for studies no longer move out of Uganda because what they seek abroad is already here at KIU,” Dr. Mustafa said.

Dr. Gidraf Joseph Wanjala, Principal College of Education, Open and Distance Learning (CoEDL), announced that the university will develop courses in intelligent design.

“These courses will benefit our students by helping them understand the ideas behind certain designs. Students can also establish clubs to foster innovation and even win grants through the foundation,” he explained.

Also present at the signing ceremony were Ms. Christine Ainebyoona and Main Campus Administrator, Assoc. Prof. Hannington Twinomuhwezi, Dean School of Natural and Applied Sciences (SONAS), Dr. Michael Adelani Adewusi, Dean School of Mathematics and Computing (SOMAC), Dr. Eva Asiimwe, Dean School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), Dr. Nicholas Ngomi, Assoc. Dean School of Public Health (SOPH), and Ms. Gloria Mahoro, Manager, Directorate of Grants and Partnerships. From Bio Cosmos, the Administrator, Mr. Isaac Mutono was part of the delegation.

The MOU signals a new era for KIU, positioning the university as a hub for intelligent design studies in Uganda. With Bio Cosmos Uganda’s support, KIU aims to nurture a generation of students who will explore design not only as a concept but as a scientific inquiry grounded in evidence and innovation.
