In the January 2019 edition of the Webometrics ranking, Kampala International University (KIU), have been ranked as the leading private university in Uganda. KIU ranked 5th (being the first private university on the list) where Makerere University came top among other public universities. Webometrics is a ranking system for the world's universities based on volume of the Web content, the visibility, and the impact of their web publications. The ranking is published by the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) located in Madrid, Spain.
