KIU, Main Campus - The Rotaract Club of KIU will have Mildred Kwagala to thank for the job well done at the 2022 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), an event that was held in Mbarara City over the weekend.

Being the only representative from KIU, Kwagala took it upon herself and her responsibility to carry the club's flag high , putting up a formidable performance that helped her team to win Gold in the Tag of War contest.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an extensive leadership program organised by Rotary clubs and districts aimed at developing professional leadership skills among young people while having fun and connections.

This year's program kicked off in November 2021 with online sessions that featured among others, business leadership and development, the art of public speaking, social leadership, bonding and social networks. Saturdays event was the climax of the two-months program.

The Mbarara camp was the first of its kind with 90% of the program on creation of long lasting friendships and start-ups. It featured a series of outdoor games aimed at creating team work and interpersonal bonding as well as critical thinking skills.

When it came to the tag of war, KIU's Kwagala was outstanding, helping her team to victory. She looked lively and aggressive.

"I feel so good and happy to have won an award at RYLA. I am also very happy that I have represented my club and University very well," she said.

The Rotaract Club of KIU is mothered by the Rotary Club of Muyenga which is their key sponsor in such events in district 9214 and elsewhere in matters to do with Rotary activities.

"I want to thank mother club, the Rotary Club of Muyenga for sponsoring us for this year's RYLA. I have had fun, have learnt some new skills and I've made enough connections and friends which I hope will help me in future," Kwagala said.

This year's RYLA attracted over 200 young people aged between 18 to 30 years, coming from different Rotaract Clubs in Uganda under district 9214.
