KIU, Main Campus- Kampala International University (KIU) football team will travel to Luzira Playgrounds to kick off their 2024/2025 University League season against Gaba Road neighbours Kampala University (KU) on Friday afternoon.

The game scheduled for 3 pm local time will be played at Luzira Playgrounds because KU's home venues are not good for competitive games.

Having failed to make it to the knockouts last season, KIU's main goal this time is to go all the way and try to end the long wait.

According to team coach Geoffrey Akabwai, all the boys are in great shape and ready to explore the heights.

"As a team, we are set. We have had enough training time together, and all the boys are beaming to go," Akabwai said in a pregame interview.

"My main target and the rest of the team is to better last year's performance and see that we come out of the group for the knockout stage," he added.

Coach AKabwai also expressed optimism in his new talent, which he hopes will help the team go further.

"I have a couple of new talent that joined the team this season, and I hope that these boys will help push the team further," he said.

"I call upon all fans to turn up in good numbers to support their own team," he added.

Both KIU and KU will look to take to the helm of Group D, which is currently led by Gulu University, who beat Bugema University 1-0 on Sunday.

KIU's probable squad from where Coach Akabwai will pick his first 11 includes Lomodi Aaron, Alamanzani Isabirye, Nicholas Kalema, Zziwa Shafiq, Gamaliel Eferu, Eddy Amoni, Brian Jjumba, Iqila Magara, Haman, Arafat Dora, Francis Peter Kayambula, Saidi Ali Rasul, Colin Nabaasa, Mark Lou, Gerald Ndibirawo, Brian Mugabe, Nathan Acedia, Patrick Ssekandi, Livingston Ochieng, Emmanuel Twesigomwe, Brian Ntambi, Allan Ntanzi Kiwalabye, Morris Tushabe, Emmanuel Okiror, Santos Turyasasira, Anselm Talemwa, Fred Wakabi, and Maxwell Musuza.
