KIU, Main Campus-Joel Kansiime, a second-year student of information technology at KIU won the Inter-University Cyber stars competition on Friday beating several students from other Universities. Kansiime’s triumph was announced by Eng. Irene Kaggwa Sewankambo, the executive director of the Uganda Communications Commission

The cyber stars competition was organised by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) in partnership with Silensec in a bid to create awareness about cyber security in Uganda.

This competition also sought to provide a virtual space for local university students aged between 18-25 years to learn more about cyber security and develop their skills in this field.

Cybersecurity has emerged as one of the key aspects that must be addressed in order to realise the reliability of communication services today. This has necessitated the development of local cybersecurity skills.

KIU was represented by 10 information technology students in the overall competition but only two, Joel Kansiime and Owen Muhoozi made it to the semifinals from where Kansime took matters into his hands to emerge the overall winner.

Congratulations Joel, Keep Exploring the Heights
