By Jacob Junior Munghesi

KIU, Main Campus- On Friday, April 12th, 2024, students across all colleges and schools will vote for their respective representatives in the KIU Guild Union for the year 2024/2025. Each College is expected to send a maximum of four legislators to the Guild Union Parliament.

Friday's voting exercise begins at 9:00 am and will close at exactly 4 pm local time according to the Guild Union electoral commission.

Francis Mugisha, the Chairperson of the KIU Guild Union urged all students to embrace the exercise of choosing their leaders.

"I want to call upon everyone to come and vote. Carry your original University National identity card or green card. You will be allowed to vote upon being proved that you are a continuing student of KIU," he said.

The colleges and schools that will be sending four candidates to the Guild Parliament are; the School of Law, School of Mathematics and Computing, College of Economics and Management, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Natural and Applied Sciences as well as the College of Education Open and Distance Learning.

The Postgraduates, Hostels and ACCESS are each required to send one representative.

However, like in the past elections, serious contention is expected in the school of law where six candidates are facing off.

The Winners from Friday's vote will be declared immediately after which candidates interested in running for Guild President can pick nomination forms between Saturday, 13th April and Monday 15th, April 2024.

According to the road map, the nominated presidential candidates will face off in a Presidential debate on Wednesday, April 17th, two days before the elected Members of Parliament vote for President on Friday, April 19th, 2024.
