KIU, Main Campus -The Titans are now just five games and three wins away from securing a spot in this year's National Basketball League finals, following their impressive journey to the semifinals. Their path to this stage was highlighted by a convincing 2-0 sweep over the KCCA Panthers in the quarter-finals.
In a thrilling Sunday afternoon showdown, the Titans managed to overcome a shaky start, trailing 41-43 at halftime. However, they unleashed a remarkable third-quarter performance, surging ahead with a score of 66-64 and maintaining their lead until the final buzzer.
This result gave the Titans a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-three quarter-final series, as they had previously won the opening game with a score of 88-83.
Five key players for the KIU Titans reached double figures in scoring. Notably, Point guard Joel Lukoji Banza delivered a standout performance, achieving a career-high tally of 22 points.
Amisi Saidi Danny Carmelo continued to impress with 15 points, adding to his remarkable season statistics. Additionally, Collins Kasujja, Peter Obleng, and Joseph Chuma contributed 10, 12, and 10 points, respectively, showcasing a well-rounded team effort.
The Titans now look ahead to the semifinals, where they will face the winner between the UCU Canons and D-Mark Power.
The UCU vs. Power game has been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 27th, 2023, and promises to be an exciting clash on the road to the championship.
The Semifinals will be played in the best-of-five format meaning the team that wins the first three games progresses to the finals.
KIU Titans like KIU Rangers have from the beginning of this season, insisted that their main target is winning the championship, and true to that effect, both teams have their goal in sight.
