KIU, Main Campus – KIU Titans basketball player Ahmed Kassa considers basketball his best friend because, according to him, it makes him happy more than anything else.
“Basketball is my best friend because it makes me happy more than anything else and it gives me a lot of fun,” Kassa says.
Kassa was signed by the Titans from Ggaba-based neighbours Kampala University, something that definitely rubbed his former team the wrong way.
The 21-year-old had guided Kampala University to the First Division title in 2018 with a season performance that won him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) accolade.
However, being the kind that always looks around for greener pastures, Kassa made the switch to Kansanga-based giants and National Basketball League big boys KIU Titans, in a bid to take his career to the next level.
Kassa cites Uganda National Basketball legend Ben Komakech as his idol and says he was a big influence for him to start playing basketball in 2014.
And this journey has seen him make his way to Titans, one of the favourites for the 2021 league title and Kassa has a chance to make history as part of the squad that could win Titans first-ever league title.
Despite starting the 2021 season with injury after his switch from Kampala University, Kassa has recovered and has now set his eyes on making a mark on the in-form Titans side brimming with confidence.
