KIU, Main Campus-KIU Titans began their ongoing National Basketball League Semifinals playoff series with an 86-72 triumph over UCU Canons at the YMCA court in Wandegeya on Friday evening.
Despite UCU Canons posing a tougher challenge, the Titans swiftly found their way through leading at every quarter eventually sealing the win.
KIU Titans won the first period by a point (17-16) before stretching to 11 by the end of the second quarter with the scoreboard reading 45-34 in favor of the Titans.
UCU tried to fight back in the third quarter, reducing the deficit to five points midway but the Titans, equal to the challenge recovered in time, stretching the lead to complete the quarter 61-51 going into the final ten minutes where it was all about finishing up the day's business.
Four KIU Titans players scored in double figures with Amisi Saidi Danny Carmelo leading the lineup with 23 points. Edgar Munaba followed with 17 while Collins Kasujja and Innocent Ochera scored 11 and 10 respectively.
The Titans look forward to game two on Sunday, understanding that triumph brings them one win closer to the final showdown.
