KIU, Main Campus -KIU Titans are on the brink of securing a spot in the National Basketball League Finals after a dominating weekend against UCU Canons. With consecutive victories, the Titans now lead the best-of-five Semifinal series 2-0.
In a thrilling Sunday evening showdown, the Titans, led by Captain Joseph Chuma's stellar performance, overcame a tied score at 50-50 in the third quarter to unleash a commanding fourth quarter, outscoring the Canons 23-6.
Denis Balungu's impressive 15 points and seven rebounds, along with Chuma's game-changing 13 points and nine rebounds, contributed to the Titans' formidable display.
The Canons fought valiantly but couldn't withstand the Titans' onslaught.
Game three on Friday could seal the Titans' journey to this year's National Basketball League Finals.
"It's good to win two games but we understand the team we are playing, so it's not yet done. We are now shifting our focus on winning game three on Friday such that we can get to the finals," KIU Titans Coach, Julius Lutwama said in a post-game interview.
"We know we are one game to the finals and we will concentrate on winning it to progress," he added.
Unlike his coach, KIU Titans captain Joseph Chuma is confident that they are going to the finals.
"We secured the win because we played as a team, getting in the fourth quarter, we felt we needed to attack them and move the ball more. Edgar, my teammate did it well, he drove in, watched the corners and I was there to score."
"We are definitely going to the finals, I believe we'll be in the finals."
