KIU Titans failed to impress against City Oilers in game one of the 2023 NBL season on Sunday despite fighting hard to avoid an embarrassment in the 51-79 loss at the fully packed MTN Arena in Lugogo.

The game began brightly with either side proving impenetrable in the first five minutes but when City Oilers found the first basket, everything changed into their own show and the Titans were simply made the Titans to chase till they couldn't find the defending Champions.

It was a bad night in the office for the whole team and nothing seemed to work on either end which gave the Oilers the edge to run away with the victory.

"The positive about today's game is we have realized we completely have done no work as coaches and players. We need to get back to the drawing board like yesterday," Coach Julius Lutwama said after the game.

"Everyone of us at some point thought would get us out of the deeper hole but instead burring us deeper," he added.

Lutwama said that the only thing City Oilers had better than KIU Titans was playing together and trusting in each other.

Now that the season is up and running, it is very clear that things have began on a serious note. Lutwama and Co will now turn gears on recovering from Sunday's disappointment to the team KIU Titans deserves to be.
