World Product Day. This Day raises awareness of and appreciation of the craft of product management and the global tribe of product people. The Day is being celebrated by over 50 live virtual events all over the world because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Childrencâ¬â?cs Day (Nigeria). Nigerians celebrate children, especially the Naija ones, wishing them a successful and bright future. Millions of children in Nigeria are missing out on education because of armed conflict, more so with the Boko Haram terror group, which has been involved in kidnappings of children from school with the view of dissuading many from pursuing a western education.
What Happened Today?
1. In 1703, Tsar Peter the Great founded the Russian City of Saint Petersburg, the second-largest Russian city after Moscow. The city once served as the capital of Russia before being replaced by Moscow after the October Revolution. It is currently the fourth-most populous city in Europe.
2. In 1980, former Ugandan President Dr Apollo Milton Obote returned to Uganda after nearly 10 years in exile in Tanzania. He had been out of the country since 1971 after being overthrown by his own Army Commander, Idi Amin. Obotecâ¬â?cs return followed a successful ouster of Amin by Tanzanian troops and Ugandan rebels in 1979. He went on to become Ugandacâ¬â?cs president for the second time.
3. In 2016, Barack Obama became the first US President to visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, set up to honour the victims of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima City by the USA in 1945, during the second world war. He also met the Hibakusha, a term used to refer to those affected by the bombing.
